Placer County was moved into the “red tier” in California’s Blueprint for a Safer Economy as new vaccination thresholds were met.

County leaders welcome the news but also urged residents to remain cautious and continue to wear masks and practice social distancing. The message is that there’s been too much progress made to take any backward steps.

The county is also making progress on expanding COVID-19 vaccinations. People between the ages of 16 and 64 with underlying health conditions are eligible for the vaccine beginning mid-March. You can sign up by visiting the Placer County Health and Human Services website. Appointments can be made here.

You can also learn more about availability by texting PLACERVACCINE to 898211.

California also opened vaccine criteria to other working groups and individuals such as transit workers, foster families and janitors. For a summary of those guidelines, visit the California Department of Public Health.
