Placer County announced it is extending the deadline for restaurants and businesses to apply for COVID-19 assistance.

About half of all the eligible businesses have already submitted applications for the grant program, named Eats & Drinks.

County leaders want to encourage more people to participate in the program. The new deadline is Oct. 9.

Workers in the food and beverage industry are among the hardest hit and it is important for the county to give them an opportunity to ask for some help.

Placer County designated $1.2 million to provide businesses with up to $1,000 in aid. Businesses must be permitted by Placer County Environmental Health to qualify.

Businesses hurt by the pandemic can use the money to offset permit fees paid to the county.
