The 20th annual Museum Day is Saturday, Feb. 3, with more than 26 participating museums throughout the greater Sacramento area. Museum Day offers free or half-priced tickets to experience the incredible wealth of museums our region has to offer.

Placer County has two participating museums that are well worth being on your list for Museum Day. Both are offering free admission and special activities.

Maidu Museum & Historic Site is a unique spot where you can learn about the Maidu who called Placer County home for thousands of years. Visitors can grind acorns, make a bracelet or participate in other children’s activities. The museum in Roseville is also next to the sprawling Maidu park with many recreational activities to fill out your day.

Roseville Utility Exploration Center will host “Bird and Bug Bonanza” on Saturday with a creek crawl, library story time and building a birdhouse. The focus of the program will be on learning why it is important to keep the creeks and waterways of Placer County clean.

The utility exploration center is located at Mahany Park in Roseville that includes the Roseville Sports Center.

Sierra College’s Natural History Museum is not part of the Museum Day, but offers free activities the first Saturday of every month. Saturday’s program will include Ice Age fun with Mammoth teeth, bones and tusks and a Sabretooth Tiger skull on display.

These museums are part of what makes Placer County a great place to live, work, and play!
