Placer County voted to expand grant funding by $2 million to businesses that are struggling to deal with the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Already, the county has allocated about $16 million in grant funding to local businesses in need.
The county hopes the extra funds will bolster economic activity when it is so badly needed.
Placer County is designating $700,000 to fund businesses that unsuccessfully applied for grant funding. Applications for those grants closed on Nov. 20.
The remaining $1.3 million will aid businesses that were impacted by recent state restrictions. In addition, the new round of funding will be available to community organizations and chambers, which helps support area business with unique solutions and projects such as outdoor dining establishments and related resources.
Placer County has budgeted nearly 40 percent of federal funding from the CARES Act to fund grant programs for businesses and nonprofits. No other county in California has set aside more for local business.
Area leaders are also encouraging residents to shop Placer this holiday season.
The Shop Placer campaign is a regional effort to rally residents around the local business community, especially those hardest hit by the pandemic.
Placer County is reminding residents that shopping locally helps keep jobs and sales tax within the community. It’s also an opportunity to thank businesses for their community support of Little League, charities and other community-driven initiatives.
