Newcastle sprouted up like many towns and cities in Placer County during the Gold Rush in the 1800s. In 1864, it was made official with the opening of its own post office. The area made a name for itself with its orchards. Residents who live there now (a population of 1,224) enjoy the country lifestyle while being close enough to get to work in areas like Rocklin, Roseville, Folsom and Sacramento.
